Exhibition at the Alliance: « Écrire en français »

Visuel de l'éxposition

Stories of Languages, Journeys of Words

The Alliance Française de Lyon is delighted to host the exhibition “Writing in French”, produced by the Alliance Française de Paris and presented on our premises from 9 June to 31 August 2026.

This exhibition invites visitors to discover the stories of 100 women and men writers from around the world who have chosen French as their language of expression, creation, and transmission. Through excerpts from literary works, exclusive testimonies, and a richly illustrated visual journey, the exhibition highlights the diversity of paths that lead to the French language.

Born in Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Kabul, Beirut, Dakar, or Saigon, these writers share a unique relationship with French – a language inherited, learned, imposed, or freely chosen. Each has developed a singular bond with it, shaped by personal experiences, encounters, and imagination.

Curated by Bernard Magnier, the exhibition’s curator, in collaboration with Sabyl Ghoussoub, and illustrated by Raphaëlle Macaron, this exhibition celebrates the richness of the contemporary Francophone world and the diversity of the voices that make it up.

Having already been presented in Paris and at several Alliances Françaises around the world, the exhibition now continues its journey to Lyon to offer our audience an immersive experience of the many ways to engage with the French language.
