To showcase the Francophonie in all its diversity

Spoken on five continents, the French language is today one of the major international linguistic areas. The Francophonie brings together nearly 400 million speakers worldwide and continues to grow thanks to its youth and dynamism in many countries.

This diversity is at the heart of the mission of the Alliance Française of Lyon: to make French a language of encounter, exchange, and openness to the world. During this edition of the Language Biennial, our teachers and students mobilized to share this richness with the general public. Primary, middle, and high school students, as well as visitors of all ages, were able to participate in fun workshops, interact with our learners from around the world, and discover how French is experienced and shared far beyond the borders of France.

Through games, interactive maps, intercultural exchanges and awareness-raising activities, participants were able to become aware of the scope of contemporary Francophonie and the diversity of cultures that make up this global linguistic space.

To showcase the Francophonie in all its diversity

During this edition, the Alliance Française of Lyon offered several activities led by its teachers and students to showcase the richness of the French language and the Francophonie.

A human and intercultural experience

The participation of our students in the Biennale created many opportunities for sharing between school groups, visitors and members of our international community.

We warmly thank our teachers, our students and all the participants who contributed to making this wonderful celebration of languages and cultures a reality.
