TCF Canada exam
The French Language Proficiency Test for Canada (TCF Canada) is an official test administered by France Éducation international. It assesses oral and written comprehension and expression skills at levels A1 to C2 of the CEFR.
The TCF Canada is intended for anyone aged 16 or older who wishes to certify their level of French in the following contexts:
- Application for economic immigration to Canada
- Application for Canadian citizenship
- Immigration to Quebec (recognized by the MIFI; Ministry of Inclusion, Francization, and Immigration)
This test is valid for two years and is recognized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and MIFI.
Prerequisite: minimum interval of 20 days between two TCF sessions. Open to all

The TCF Canada consists of four mandatory tests:
- Group test (2 hours 35 minutes)
- Listening comprehension: 35 min
- Reading comprehension: 60 min
- Written expression: 60 min
- Individual test (12 min)
- Oral expression: 12 min
The exam is taken on a computer at the Alliance Française premises.

*The date of the oral exam is set by the exam center and cannot be chosen by the candidate.
- Each test is scored out of 699 points.
- The CEFR level (A1 to C2) is assigned according to the official grid of France Éducation International.
- The certificate indicates the score and level achieved for each skill.
To register, you will need the following documents:
- Identity card or passport
- You will receive your exam invitation by email one week before the exams.
- If you have not received it, please contact: test_examens@aflyon.org
- Results are sent by email within 2 to 3 weeks.
- The TCF Canada is valid for 2 years.
A partial refund or deferral to a later session may be granted:
- upon presentation of medical, professional, or transportation documentation (strike or delay)
- supporting document written in French and sent no later than the day after the exams to tests_examens@aflyon.org
- subject to availability for postponement

Our examiners are certified and trained according to the official DELF and DALF standards.
In 2025, more than 2,800 candidates placed their trust in the Alliance Française de Lyon to take a French exam, including 85 candidates for the TCF Canada.
