DAEFLE exams
The DAEFLE consists of five core competency blocks, accompanied by a specialization block to personalize your pathway. The exam takes the form of written tests, each lasting 1h30, except for the module Préparer un cours, which lasts 2 hours.
What is the DAEFLE?
DAEFLE: definition
The DAEFLE is a professional training program that validates your ability to teach French as a foreign language (FLE). It certifies that you have the skills required to design, lead, and assess courses intended for non-French-speaking learners.
Two options are available to take the DAEFLE exam, depending on your needs and schedule:
- Take the full exam: you take all the tests of the DAEFLE to validate the entire certification in a single session.
- Take the exams à la carte: you choose to take certain tests according to your progress, allowing you to plan your pathway at your own pace.
The target audience
The DAEFLE is intended for several groups:
- Future FLE teachers
- Teachers undergoing career changes wishing to certify their skills
- Students with training in foreign language teaching
Exam objectives
Taking the DAEFLE allows you to:
- Validate your teaching skills to teach FLE
- Design courses adapted to learners
- Support learners in their progress using appropriate assessment methods
- Improve learners’ pronunciation and oral fluency
What are the prerequisites for the DAEFLE?
To register for the DAEFLE exam at the Alliance Française de Lyon, you must:
- Have passed the entry test for the DAEFLE training.
- Have completed the CNED training (CNED link) and obtained at least 20 points out of 55 in continuous assessment.
What are the DAEFLE modules?
The DAEFLE includes five core blocks:
- Accompagner les apprenants par l’évaluation
- Animer un cours
- Évoluer dans son milieu professionnel
- Favoriser l’acquision de la prononciation
- Préparer un cours
In addition, you can choose a specialization block from the following:
- Enseigner le FLE aux enfants (FLE ENF)
- Enseigner le Français sur Objectifs Spécifiques (FOS)
- Enseigner le français aux Adultes Peu ou Pas Scolarisés (APPS)
These modules are designed to deepen your knowledge and skills in specific areas of FLE.
Difference between the DAEFLE and the FLE Master’s degree
The DAEFLE is a certifying professional training program completed in one year. It allows you to acquire practical, immediately applicable skills to teach FLE. In contrast, a two-year FLE Master’s degree is an academic diploma that opens more pathways toward research, higher education teaching, and pedagogical project management careers.
How to prepare for the DAEFLE?
It is recommended to follow a complete distance-learning program, such as the CNED en ligne, to prepare effectively for the exam. Teaching resources and exam papers are also available to help you practice.
What career opportunities does the DAEFLE offer?
Once you have obtained the DAEFLE, you can pursue several careers in the field of teaching:
- FLE teacher in schools, language institutes, or associations
- Trainer in companies or for specific audiences (FOS, FLE ENF)
