DELF A1 Exam
The DELF A1 (Diplôme d’études en langue française) is the first official certification issued by France Éducation international on behalf of the French Ministry of Education.
It is the first step in the certification process, from A1 to C2.
This internationally recognized and lifetime valid diploma assesses a candidate’s ability to communicate in simple everyday situations.
The DELF A1 is intended for anyone who is a beginner in French and wishes to have their language level officially recognized for personal, academic, or professional reasons.

Le DELF A1 comprend deux épreuves principales :
- Group test (1 hour 20 minutes)
- Listening comprehension: 20 min
- Reading comprehension: 30 min
- Production écrite : 30 min
- Individual test (15-20 min)
- Preparation: 10 min
- Oral presentation: 5 to 7 minutes

*The date of the oral exam is set by the exam center and cannot be chosen by the candidate.
- Each skill is scored out of 25 points
- Total: 100 points
- To pass: 50/100, with no score lower than 5/25 in each test
To register, you will need the following documents:
- ID or passport (with photo)
- If you have already taken the DELF exam: registration certificate, transcript, or copy of your diploma showing your candidate number.
- You will receive your exam invitation by email one week before the exams
- If you have not received it, please contact: test_examens@aflyon.org
- The results are sent by email within 6 weeks
- The official diploma is sent approximately 6 months after the exam
- The DELF A1 is valid for life
A partial refund or deferral to a later session may be granted:
- upon presentation of medical, professional, or transportation documentation (strike or delay)
- supporting document written in French and sent no later than the day after the exams to tests_examens@aflyon.org
- subject to availability for postponement

Since its creation in 1984, the Alliance Française de Lyon has been teaching the French language and promoting cultural diversity.
We are an examination center approved by France Éducation International, located in downtown Lyon, with rooms suitable for exams.
Our examiners are certified and trained according to the official DELF and DALF standards.
En 2025, plus de 2800 candidats ont fait confiance à l’Alliance Française de Lyon pour passer leur examen de français dont 99 candidats au DELF A1.
