A reminder relative to the entrance and residence conditions in France
Visa, residence permit and insurance…
• The visa
A visa can never be delivered in France after your arrival.
A student who wants to stay in France more than 3 months must obtain from the French consulate services in his home country and before his departure a « long-stay » student visa.. We recommand you to get complete information concerning the delays for the delivery of a visa.
Visa exemption: the only students exempted are those coming from the Espace Economique Européen (EEE)
At the time of registration, the students must have a passport or, for the EEE students, a valid identity card.

• The residence permit
Upon arrival in Lyon, the students who are registered iwith l’Alliance Française will have to apply to the Prefecture in order to obtain their residence permit
For this purpose, when they arrive, they must have the following documents :
A birth certificate mentionning the father’s and mother’s filiation (original document with a certified translation in French)
a long-stay visa (except for the EEE students)
The other necessary documents will be obtained in Lyon.
Comments:
In order to obtain a residence permit, the students (except the EEE students) will have to pass a medical examination, in Lyon.

• Compulsary insurance
Health insurance
- students who are less than 28 years’ old (out of EEE or non EEE residents) have to be affiliated to student Social Security. The fee is to be paid when your registration is definite.
- students who are less than 28 years of age, stable residents in EEE and in Switzerland, will have to provide a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or the E form 128 (delivered in their home country)or a private insurance certificate. These documents must state that the social coverage is applicable for the entire university year, without any restriction of risk.
Students over 28 years of age must have a private individual insurance.
Third party insurance
All students must have third party insurance coverage (for damage to a third party). A copy of their insurance contract will be required at registration time.
If necessary, l’Alliance Française de Lyon may provide students with Health and Third Party Insurance contracts.
A student has to take an assessment test on site or on line in order to register in a class matching with his level. In any case, the written test will be completed with an interview on site for a more precise evaluation.
Attendance is compulsary. In case of unexcused absence of a student, l’Alliance Française de Lyon may refuse to allow him to take the exams at the end of the course, or to register for tne next academic year. • Exams
The dates of the exams are given at the beginning of the course. These dates cannot be modified.
Certificate at the end of the studies.
At the end of the course, besides the diploma if one passes the exam, l’Alliance Fraçaise de Lyon delivers a certificate. This certificate, with regard to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL), indicates the level obtained, the nature of the course and the number of hours attended .
NB: According to the law « Informatique et Liberté »», l’Alliance Française de Lyon undertakes not to transmit to a third party a student’s personal data.
Students who want to register for the « French Language and Culture” programme should show a level A2N3 with regard to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: TEF or TCF level 2, DELF A2 or assessment test when they arrive at l’Alliance Française de Lyon.
• Module 1 : General French + oral training – 144 hours
Objectives :
To express various opinions and feelings
To claim / to write a letter of protest
To narrate past events
General language course, oral training and reinforcement of the language
•Module 2 : General French + grammar course and improvement of written French 171 hours
Objectives :
To express oneself in a continuous way / to take part in a conversation
To write reports, short notices, personal letters
To establish logical links between events
General language course and reinforcement of the language
• Module 3 : General French – 186 hours Objectives :
To express oneself in a natural and easy way on a wide range of subjects
To argue and to know how to emphasize significant elements
To use in an efficient way a large range of conjunctions to establish links between ideas
General language course
• Module 4 :« French Language and Civilization course » - 96 hours
2 civilization subjects : each one for 48 hours
Objectives :
To adapt the language to different situations of communication To participate in a conversation about current topics To present a document and explain the problematic To understand any type of long and complex text To present a clear and well structured report Civilization course
• End of course diplôma
At the end of the course « French Language and Culture », students will take the test of l’Alliance Française de Paris : « Diplôme Supérieur de Langue et Culture Françaises (DSLCF).
The DSLCF is recognized by the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE).
It is at the level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the European Council. The DSLCF is approved by the French Ministry of Education.
Students who wish to register for the « Upper French studies” programme should show a level B2 with regard to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: TEF or TCF level 4, DELF B2 or assessment test when they arrive at l’Alliance Française de Lyon.
• Module 1 : General French + grammar course and improvement of written French
– 168 hours
Objectives :
To express oneself naturaly with ease on a wide range of topics
To argue pointing out the main and secondary points
To master a wide range of special words to indicate the link between ideas
General language course, oral training and reinforcement of the language
• Module 2 : French Language and Civilization course - 144 hours
3 civilization subjects : each one for 48 hours
Objectives :
To adapt the language to different situations of communication To participate in a conversation about current topics To present a document and explain the problematic To understand any type of long and complex text To present a clear and well structured report
Civilization course
• Module 3 : Language and literature : 144 hours
2 complete literary works
Objectives :
To express oneself with nuances on complex subjects
To write literary essays or any other text following a logical structure and
in an efficient way
To master all nuances and figures of style.
General language course, literature course and reinforcement of the language
• End of course diplôma
At the end of the « Upper French Studies” programme , students will take the test of l’Alliance Française de Paris : « Diplôme des Hautes Etudes Françaises » (DHEF).
The DHEF is recognized by the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE).
It is at the level C2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the European Council. The DSLCF is approved by the French Ministry of Education.
The courses in l’Alliance Française de Lyon are open to any student who is 18 years of age and more. . • Pre-registration
Pre-registration is aiming at students who need a “long stay” visa (see “Entrance and residence conditions in France” ) or who wish to reserve their registration for courses in l’Alliance Française de Lyon.
Pre-registration can be arranged on line, by correspondence or on site, at least one month before the beginning of the courses.
A deposit of 645 €, deductible from the total amount, will be asked before the delivery of a certificate as proof of pre- registration. This amount includes 50 € for application fees which are not refundable.
• Definite registration
If the student pays the total amount of the fees, he will get a registration certificate.
At the time of the definite registration or confirmation of the registration, the student must : - show a valid passport where a “ long-stay” visa appears clearly (national identity card for the EU students)
- provide 2 identity photos
- pay the total amount for the courses:
- « French language and culture » programme : 3164,10 €,
- « Upper French Studies » programme : 2564,80 €.
The rates include :
- application fees (50 € non refundable);
- course fees;
- exam fees.
•Means of payment
a) Tele payment
The payment can take place on-line via a bank card or via a bank transfer (see below), or by cheque or postal order to the order of l’Alliance Française de Lyon. In the case of a postal order, please attach the original post-office receipt .

b) Payment on site
The payment can be made on site via a bank card, a cheque, travellers cheque in Euros, or cash.
• Certificates
A certificate of pre-registration or registration will be delivered in all cases after payment of the corresponding amount.
• Reimbursement
The course fees paid will not be differed or reimbursed.
Some special cases can be considered : visa refusal supported by a document from the French Consulate, serious illness attested by a medical certificate, death of a close family member (parents, brothers, sisters, children), if documentary evidence is furnished.
